About Reframed.News

A daily news briefing by Skylark Creations LLC

Reframed.News exists so you can understand the news without somebody telling you what to think about it - including us.

Who writes this

The briefing in your inbox each morning was written by a machine. We’d rather you hear that from us than work it out.

Every day an AI reads that day’s reporting from outlets across the spectrum, picks the stories that matter to an American reader, and writes two things for each one: the facts every credible outlet agrees on, with a link to the reporting behind each fact, and a short read of how the left and the right are talking about it. A second set of checks looks for a fact the reporting doesn’t support. Then it sends. No person reads each morning’s briefing before it goes out. We read it after.

We built it because the hard part of the news right now is telling the facts from the frame. Most of us read one side’s version and take the frame with the facts, without noticing the handoff. A machine can hold both frames side by side without getting angry at either one. That is the one thing it does better than we do, and it’s the whole reason it’s here.

It doesn’t report. There isn’t a reporter here and there won’t be. Every fact traces to a human journalist’s published work, and the link is right there so you can go argue with the source instead of taking our word for it.

It doesn’t decide what you should think. The two readings are there so you can see the frame. Which one is right is your job, and we mean that.

It gets things wrong. The checks catch some errors and miss others, and a wrong fact in a confident sentence is the worst thing this product can do. When you find one, hit reply. A person reads every one of those, and the fix goes into the rules that write tomorrow’s briefing, not just the sentence that was wrong.

It sends once a day and then leaves you alone.

Some people don’t want news from a machine at all. We understand that, and we’re not going to argue you out of it. If that’s you, the most we can offer is that we said so on the front page.

If it’s useful, send it to someone who reads the other paper.
