Where Left and Right agree, and where they split

Where Left and Right agree
Both accept that Wright's admission of an uncertain deal is consequential, and that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon is the real objective at stake.
Where Left and Right split
The left and the right split on which failure scares them more: striking too soon or stalling too long.
Why they won’t converge
The divide is one of trust in institutions: whether Washington's military campaign against Iran can be trusted to substitute for verified diplomatic constraints on nuclear capability.
Watch for
Watch whether the ongoing US-Iran conflict, now in its seventh month with active strikes at sea, produces a change in administration in Tehran that Wright says any agreement may have to await.NewsMax, matzav.com, ABC News

How left and right read it

Left says

Floating the destruction of another country's nuclear capacity should never be a throwaway line, yet Wright raised it as an alternative to negotiation while admitting an agreement remains uncertain and might have to wait for some future Iranian government. That's a war aim dressed up as a shrug. Before anyone accepts force as the fallback, the burden is on Washington to show diplomacy was actually exhausted, not just sound bored with it on television.

“Energy Secretary Chris Wright went on a train wreck of a television spree Sunday, bungling his defense of fuel prices in back-to-back stops on CNN, ABC and CBS.” — HuffPost↗

Right says

America's one nonnegotiable goal is that Iran never fields a nuclear weapon. Wright's admission that no deal may come, and that Washington could instead move to destroy Iran's capability, shows that goal isn't guaranteed. But betting it on some future Iranian administration means outsourcing American security to Tehran's own calendar. That is not sovereignty. Deterrence must hold now, on America's terms.

“Trump has long made clear that his top priority with the war in Iran has been to ensure that the theocratic regime does not obtain a nuclear weapon.” — New York Post↗

Wright's real subject is a clock, not a deal. The fight is over who gets to set it — Washington or Tehran.
