Iran says it sent US conditions for talks through Qatari mediators

America's decisions about war and peace should never be dictated by a foreign power's ultimatum, so a threat of further war if terms are rejected is no way to earn Washington's trust. But that does not mean the mediation channel already opened through Qatar should be ignored, since only some of the seven conditions have even been made public. Trump should use that channel to find out what ending the fighting would actually require, without binding the United States to anything more than that.
