Where Left and Right agree
Left and right largely agree on this one.
- What both sides accept
- Expelling Araghchi's delegation to Doha while Hormuz, the conflict, and the nuclear file sat unresolved closed a channel worth keeping open.
- Where Left and Right differ in emphasis
- The left and the right both want the channel kept open — they part on whose costs justify keeping it.
How left and right read it
An open channel is worth more than a point scored, because what those indirect talks covered — reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending the conflict, the nuclear file — carries consequences that fall on civilians, not on the officials deciding. Araghchi stayed in New York after Iran's president left, yet Rubio treated the stall as grounds to order the delegation out to Doha rather than grounds to keep at it. Talking is the cheaper risk.
A reopened Strait of Hormuz is an American interest measured in shipping lanes and prices at home — and that, along with ending the conflict and the nuclear file, is what the talks covered. The burden therefore sits on whoever shuts that channel to show the military course already announced buys more than the table could, because the delegation left for Doha with all of it unresolved. Keep the channel open.
“President Trump announced the launch of "Operation Epic Fury" on February 28 to neutralize the Iranian terror regime's ability to pose a threat to America and Israel.” — Breitbart
A stalled channel still has a price: civilians bear it on the ground, Americans at the pump — and whoever closes it owns that bill.
