Context

Who is Mykhailo Fedorov?

Fedorov, 35, is a longtime advocate of drone warfare and artificial intelligence who drove rapid technological change in Ukraine's defense sector before being dismissed as defense minister in July Yahoo! Finance,Straits Times. Sources differ on the length of his tenure, describing it as five or six months Yahoo! Finance,Euromaidan Press. He has said he will not return to government and will instead focus on private-sector projects Defense News.

Why has the arrangement drawn criticism in Ukraine?

Tetiana Nikolaienko, a journalist and deputy head of the Public Anti-Corruption Council at the Defense Ministry, said the venture raises questions about Fedorov's integrity in moving from public service to the private sector, because the ministry cooperated with Palantir while he was minister ZN.UA. Member of parliament Oleksii Honcharenko raised Fedorov's post-office obligations not to disclose state secrets ZN.UA. Palantir's expanding role in warfare and government data handling has also drawn criticism more broadly Euromaidan Press.

What is Palantir?

Palantir Technologies is a US data analysis and software company whose defense and security products are used by militaries, governments and intelligence services LB.ua,Радіо Свобо…. Business Insider describes it as an American AI, data and operational intelligence company Business Insider. Karp is its co-founder and chief executive Washington Post.

Where Left and Right agree, and where they split

Left and right largely agree on this one.

Where Left and Right agree
Both read the same gap: a lead investor already committed to a venture with no name, no disclosed sum, no product focus — disclosure and accountability must come first.
Where Left and Right differ in emphasis
Both demand details before dollars move; one because packaging Ukrainian suffering as a product line is wrong, the other because commercial ties commit countries no one voted on.
Why they won’t converge
This is a values-versus-institutional-trust divide: one side is judging what may morally be sold, the other who may bind a country without a vote, so the same disclosed facts answer neither question.

How left and right read it

Left says

A war that has cost Ukrainians their lives is being described as a source of knowledge that can be packaged and sold to allied countries — and that framing deserves resistance, because suffering is not a product line. The venture arrives with no name, no disclosed investment size and no stated product focus, yet its lead investor is already set; the man building it ran the Defense Ministry until his dismissal in July triggered protests. Details first. Then accountability, before a single dollar moves.

“Palantir's chief executive, Alex Karp, will be the lead investor in the former Ukrainian defense minister's new weapons technology start-up, signaling that Russia's war against Kyiv has spurred advances in weapons technology that can be deployed elsewhere.” — Washington Post↗

Right says

Commercial ties are how open-ended commitments get made without anyone voting on them. Yet a venture built by a defense minister whose July dismissal triggered protests has no announced name, no disclosed investment size and no stated product focus, while Palantir's chief executive is already its first lead investor, pledging to turn Ukraine's knowledge of modern war into a product for allied countries. That is a channel, not a strategy.

“Alex Karp, the Palantir boss, is backing a new defence tech start-up founded by Ukraine's recently sacked defence minister.” — The Telegraph↗
