Trump to meet Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez in New York

Where Left and Right agree, and where they split

Where Left and Right agree

Both treat the meeting's small, undefined format as significant, since Rodríguez holds power only on an interim basis after Maduro's January capture and no agenda has been specified.

Where Left and Right split

The left and the right split on what risk the pull-aside masks: more U.S. force, or endless U.S. obligation.

Why they won’t converge

The split is over trust in the institution wielding force: whether an administration that already used capture as a tool can be counted on to treat this meeting as closure rather than a template for what comes next.
