Where Left and Right agree, and where they split
- Where Left and Right agree
- Ukraine faces an immediate threat while promised air-defense support and high-level U.S. engagement both need to move faster than stalled diplomacy has so far allowed.
- Where Left and Right split
- The left and the right split on whether Trump's Ukraine meeting is mainly about urgent protection or revived diplomacy.
How left and right read it
Within 48 hours, Zelenskyy warned, Russia could launch a new large-scale strike on Ukraine. That makes the planned Trump meeting matter less as spectacle than as a test of whether urgent air-defense commitments are actually carried out while diplomacy remains stalled. When a country under threat is still waiting on basic protection, the question is simple: will support arrive in time to protect lives?
Zelenskyy said Ukraine is preparing a meeting with President Trump and his team after speaking with Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about reviving diplomacy, even as reports said the war talks were stalled. That is the point. American leverage should be used to press for serious diplomacy while any promised support is carried out promptly.
This isn't mainly a story about a White House meeting — it's about whether U.S. urgency should go first to shielding Ukraine or forcing diplomacy forward.
